Trend 2022 The new TERRACE, series 9 by SAMSUNG... Your Four Seasons TV in the sun!

With the coming of our beautiful outdoor season, I'd like to tell you about a new consumer product, the Samsung Series 9 Full Sun Outdoor TV introduced late in the fall of 2021. As I write this, it's August and the big heat waves will give way to more temperate days, making outdoor activities more comfortable! As far back as I can remember, there have always been people who took their big TVs outside. The first instance was mostly to watch the field hockey playoffs, followed by the summer sports season such as baseball, not to mention the Summer Olympics, etc., etc.

At that time, it was unthinkable to leave a TV outside, a little rain and it was over...

Another misery of the past, in broad daylight, we could see nothing, nothing, nothing!

In a previous article, I talked about The Terrace TV (Series 7), now let's see what else the Series 9 offers.

For 2022, the big news at Samsung is the UL certified "glare-free" screen

All of Samsung's lifestyle TVs will be equipped with this in 2022 and the new Terrace Series 9 is one of them. This means that a flashlight shining directly on the screen will not generate mirror images. The new Terrace Series 9 with its glare-free screen with fingerprint protection and brightness of up to 2000 nits can be viewed in direct sunlight! In addition, the operating temperature can reach 50 degrees Celsius in the summer and the IP55 standard allows it to be exposed to rain!

Before considering the picture and sound performance, it is important to make sure that this TV can stay outdoors. To get a good idea of its resistance, the Terrace is certified IP55, which means Protection Index5 + 5.

The first "5" means that the case will resist dust and microscopic residues, over time, the internal components will not be damaged.

The second 5 has to do with resistance against water infiltration. Standard number 5 specifies that not only does rain not affect the product, even a jet of water from a distance of 2 to 3 meters will not be able to penetrate!

You can be sure that nothing will affect this TV and with a wide range of operating temperatures (minus 31 to plus 50 degrees Celsius) you can find a place for it outdoors all year round! Now you can have your own personal drive-in movie at home!

A TV designed for people who like action!

Whether it's any form of sports, including motorsports, you need a screen that reacts fast! The MR120's speed of execution allows you to follow fast movements without any residual image trails. The ultra-black screen delivers rich, high-contrast images.

Outdoor TVs are not new, however Samsung is the only one to offer its QLED technology that offers 4K performance as well as a matrix guaranteed against marking, an issue often present in the competition given the intensity required of the image for outdoor daytime viewing.

On your terrace, it's sunny, no problem!

Having a beautiful QLED image is good, however it is useless if you can't see it...

That's why Samsung has incorporated a highly effective anti-reflective coating on THE TERRACE. This new coating is so effective that when your TV is turned off, the panel is completely matte. To fight the sun, the brightness is 2000 NITS. An intelligent sensor analyzes the ambient light and reduces the brightness to adapt automatically.

In addition, the matrix is of the "direct lighting" type, i.e. the pixels are illuminated directly behind it as opposed to the side backlight. The more direct, the better the performance.

Day or night, you get a clear, high-contrast image.

The key word is versatility.

OK, the TV is weatherproof and performs well, what more could you want?

To get the most out of your new purchase, Samsung has pulled out all the stops in terms of connectivity. Never before have we seen so many possibilities, the full sun 9 series takes the features of the 7 series in full:

1 - Classic antenna connection and possibility to connect a cable TV. Nothing revolutionary except that the connection compartment is closed, sealed and can only be opened with a screwdriver.

2 - Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity for viewing YouTube, Netflix and a host of other web applications.

3 - Samsung TV Plus, a free television service available to everyone. You can watch a large number of channels usually offered on cable without paying a cent. YES CBC English and French is included!

4 - Airplay2 for the apple company fans. You can easily connect to stream content from your iPhone or a visitor's iPhone, the same can be done from an Android device...

5 - Multiview split screen allowing to view two sources at the same time on the screen. No bickering, a show on one side, and Gaming on the other!

6 - Tap View: or the ability to mirror your mobile device by simply touching the top of your Terrace to make the connection.

7 -HDBASE-T Receiver: you will be able to connect all your devices, whether it is a set-top box, Blu-ray player, computer, game console and so on through ONE WIRE! This feature is unique, because through an Ethernet wire, you can link a transmitter to which your devices are connected in a simple and unique connection. As for the quality of the transfer, no limitation since the 4K resolution is ensured with its premium quality audio frame.

 Technologies adapted to modern needs

THE TERRACE TV offers the full range of integration with connected objects.

1 - Full control with Bixby voice command. Use your included stainless steel remote, and give your commands. The execution will be perfect and without delay.

2 - Alexa and google assistant integrated. Search the web, request information, control your devices remotely, your imagination will be the only limit to the possible applications of these assistants. The remote control being your entry point, no privacy issue, at rest, it is not active.

3 - Smarthings by Samsung, turns your mobile device into a Wi-Fi remote control. If you are within range of your Wi-Fi network, you can control your TV from anywhere! It's also possible to watch your TV show on your smartphone screen! No interruption if you have to leave the front of the TV, your guests will continue to follow the show and so will you... remotely!

4 - SmartHub, all your connected devices, such as thermostats, light dimmers, garage door and others, will be displayed on a control screen integrated into the Terrace. You're in the yard, unlock the door for your kids as they arrive without taking your eyes off the screen! The applications are once again, limitless...

5 - One Remote. The remote control in stainless steel sealed (IP56) against damage by water or dust, integrates the operation of your devices connected to the TV. For example, you connect a Bell decoder, automatically, the menu will be downloaded from the Samsung servers and your remote control will act on it smoothly. No more headaches with multiple remotes. 

6 - DLNA. DLNA integration allows you to install many applications, including those of major video-on-demand services such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Rakuten TV, Twitch and many others. DLNA technology is also standard on connected outdoor TVs so you can enjoy the multimedia content on your computer directly on your THE TERRACE screen. And since the world of computing is constantly evolving, you'll always be ready to enjoy the latest findings or service offerings connected via your laptop or conventional computer.

The optional sound bar for outdoor use.

With its built-in 20-watt audio system, you'll hear everything from a reasonable distance from the TV. The frequency response is full and the sound is fair with crystal clear highs and fairly well reproduced bass. However, that 20 watts will have its limits.

There was no way to give you a TV with enough sound for every occasion, so Samsung introduced its outdoor sound bar, the Terrace HW-LST70T.

With its 210 watts, built-in subwoofer and center channel speaker, you get a great sound. The IP55 rating is the same as the TV. For a pleasing, well-defined sound, harmonic distortion analysis circuitry "listens" to the speaker output and proactively and continuously corrects the sound output. Turn up the sound to the max without worrying, the artificial intelligence will take care of the rest!

But that's not all! When you're not using the HW-LS70T as a sound bar, it will serve as a external ambient speakers continuous. You should have thought of that!!!

Of course, Alexa and Google Assistant services are included, just say: Alexa, play me Jazz, and off you go!

As a premium product, as far as its wall installation is concerned, there will be no worries as the fixing kit is included in the box.

What about winter?

Two choices are available to you, with its ability to operate down to minus 31 degrees you can choose outdoor activities with this TV.

In all honestyI think it will be a minority of people who do. On the other hand, The Terrace will make an excellent indoor TV with the same level of performance as a 90 series QLED (the top).

The last word

In summary, with a waterproof design, resistant to weather, dust, extreme temperatures and UV, Samsung's THE TERRACE TVs are designed to be placed outdoors, by the pool or even in a very humid room. This new version adds the ability to watch in direct sunlight making its outdoor placement completely unconstrained by the search for shade.

For a better experience, I strongly suggest you consider purchasing the recommended sound bar for this series. The TERRACE 9 series full sun TVs are available in two sizes 65-75 inches. A cover can preserve the appearance if desired...
